Mechanical and fabrication

Mechanical services

Work on vehicles, machinery and steel. Servicing and repairs on cars, utes and heavy diesel plant, repair welding on anything that has cracked or broken, and steel fabricated to measure when the part you need is not available.

What is covered

Vehicle, machinery and steel work

Sorted into the kinds of job that come up most often. Each card is one kind of work, with the individual jobs listed as tags underneath it. Servicing and repairs on cars, utes and heavy diesel plant, repair welding and steel made to measure, and fit out work on work vehicles. Some jobs are done in a workshop and some where the machine sits.

Vehicle repairs and servicing

Cars, utes and 4WDs. Servicing, brakes, suspension, cooling systems and exhaust, along with the bigger jobs like turbo replacement and the faults that turn up in between.

  • Servicing
  • Brakes and suspension
  • Turbos and engine work
  • Fault finding

Heavy diesel and plant

Trucks, tractors, excavators and other diesel plant. Servicing, fault finding and repairs, including machines that are easier to work on where they sit rather than moved to a workshop.

  • Trucks and tractors
  • Excavators and plant
  • On site repairs
  • Servicing

Welding and fabrication

Repair welding on machinery, trailers, gates, frames and brackets, and steel made to measure. Cracked steel is cut back to sound metal and built up properly instead of being tacked over.

  • Repair welding
  • Frames and brackets
  • Racks and guards
  • One off parts

Canopies, trays and fit outs

Work vehicles set up to carry gear properly. Canopies and trays fitted, toolboxes and drawers built in, racks and tie down points added where they are actually needed.

  • Ute canopies and trays
  • Toolboxes and drawers
  • Racks and shelving
  • Van fit outs
Dual battery and solar controller mounted in a vehicle

12 volt and auto electrical

Dual battery and solar setups for camping, touring and work vehicles, wired and mounted so nothing shifts on a rough track. Lighting, switches and accessory circuits fitted and fused correctly.

  • Dual battery systems
  • Solar and chargers
  • Driving lights
  • Accessory wiring
New head unit fitted into a ute dashboard

Audio and interior

Head units, speakers and amplifiers fitted and wired in, using the factory openings and looms where possible so the dash still looks standard. Old and blown speakers replaced.

  • Head units
  • Speakers and amps
  • Door and dash trim
  • Wiring tidied up
Work ute fitted with a bull bar and tray, set up for towing

Trailers and towing gear

Trailer chassis repairs, couplings, guards, ramps, lights and wiring, and tow vehicles set up to pull them. Worn or damaged towing gear is replaced rather than patched, because it is the part that fails at the worst time.

  • Chassis repairs
  • Couplings and hitches
  • Ramps and guards
  • Lights and wiring

Questions

Mechanical work, answered

Common questions about welding, fabrication and machinery repairs.

Is the work done at my place or somewhere else?

Some jobs are done on site and some need a workshop. Machinery that is difficult to move is often better worked on where it sits. Describe the job when you call and Shane will tell you which it is.

What metals can you weld?

Steel is the everyday work, from thin sheet through to heavy sections. Ring first about aluminium or cast iron so Shane can confirm before you bring it in.

Can you make a part that is no longer available?

Often, yes. Bring the broken part, a drawing or a sketch with measurements on it. If the part is still fitted to a machine, measurements can be taken on site.

Do you work on tractors and excavators?

Yes. Heavy diesel is a regular part of the work, covering servicing, fault finding and repairs on trucks, tractors, excavators and similar plant.

Can you repair a trailer?

Yes. Chassis repairs, couplings, guards, ramps, lights and wiring are all common jobs. Worn towing gear is replaced rather than patched up.

How long will my vehicle be off the road?

It depends on the fault and on parts availability. Shane will give you a realistic timeframe once he has looked at it, and will let you know if that changes.
