Building and property repairs

Building and property maintenance

Building and repair work around a house or property. Sheds put up, timber and plaster repaired, walls and fences painted, doors made to work again, and yards built up from bare ground. Small jobs are welcome, and several can be done in the one visit.

What is covered

Jobs around the house and yard

Sorted into the kinds of job that come up most often. Each card is one kind of work, with the individual jobs listed as tags underneath it. Sheds put up, walls patched and painted, doors made to close again, yards levelled, and old structures taken away. Several small jobs can be grouped into the one visit.

Sheds and structures

Kit and flat pack sheds assembled, squared up and fixed down, through to large shed frames and carports. The base is checked for level before the frame goes up, so the doors sit right and keep working.

  • Storage and garden structures

Roofing and building repairs

Rusted carport and verandah roofing replaced, and the usual timber faults sorted out: split fascia, loose weatherboards, damaged decking and rotten framing. Damaged sections are cut out and replaced rather than covered over.

  • Roof sheeting replacement
  • Rotten timber and fascia
  • Weatherboards
  • Decking repairs

Fences, decks and yards

Fences and gates built or repaired, timber balustrades and handrails put in, plus retaining walls, garden beds, edging, mulch and turf. Levels and drainage are worked out before anything is built.

  • Balustrades and handrails
  • Retaining walls
  • Turf, mulch and edging

Doors, gates and hardware

Roller and sectional garage doors fitted, including electric openers, and the smaller hardware jobs: handles, locks, hinges, latches and closers. Doors that stick, drag or will not latch are usually a short visit.

  • Hinges and closers
  • Sticking doors adjusted

Painting and patching

Inside and outside work, from a single room to a whole fence. Holes, cracks and old fixing points are patched and sanded flat first, then surfaces are undercoated and finished in the colour you choose.

  • Fences and exteriors
  • Plaster patching
  • Colour matching

General jobs around the house

The list of small things that never get done. Flat pack and equipment assembly, shelving, brackets, blinds and curtain rails, gutter clearing. Several small jobs are usually grouped into the one visit.

  • Flat pack assembly
  • Gym and equipment builds
  • Shelving and brackets
  • Blinds and curtain rails

If the job you have in mind is not in one of these groups, it is still worth asking. Most general repair and maintenance work around a property can be sorted out.

Before and after

Removals and clean outs

Old sheds, lean tos, decks and pergolas pulled down and taken away, and the ground left flat and clean behind them. Waste removal is arranged with the job so there is nothing left in the yard to deal with afterwards.

  • Old shed removal
  • Decks and pergolas
  • Rubbish and green waste
  • Site left clean

Questions

Property work, answered

Common questions about shed builds, repairs and painting.

Can you build a shed I have already bought?

Yes. Kit sheds from any of the usual suppliers get built regularly. Have the slab or base ready before the build day, or ask about getting one sorted first.

Do I need a slab before the shed goes up?

The shed needs a level, solid base of some kind. Whether that is a concrete slab, a compacted pad or a timber frame depends on the shed and the ground. Talk it through when you call.

Will a patched wall still show once it is painted?

A patch is sanded flat and painted so it does not catch the light. Matching an existing colour is easier if you still have the original tin or the colour name.

Do you do small painting jobs?

Yes. A single room, one wall, a door or a fence is worth doing. There is no minimum size.

My door sticks and will not latch. Is that a whole new door?

Usually not. Most sticking doors come down to worn hinges or a frame that has dropped, and both can be adjusted. A replacement is only worth it if the door itself is damaged.

Is the site cleaned up afterwards?

Yes. Work areas are swept and offcuts are cleared. Removal of large amounts of waste is arranged separately, so mention it when you book.
